05-AUGUST-2008 MAYSOON MUHAMED ABU-AMIREH 40 YEARS
EXTRUDED DISC L5-S1 WITH LEFT DOWNWARD MIGRATION.
Anamnesis:
The patient's husband came to
the clinic 04-August-2008 telling that his wife
is complaining of agonizing left sciatica for 2
weeks with LBP for 5 years, which escalate the
last 45 days.
MRI performed 2 hours ago
showing an extruded disc L5-S1 with left
downward migration.
On examination before
surgery: the patient has weak dorsi and
planterflexion left foot -4/5 with hypalgesia
and numbness of the left S1 territory.
Left L5-S1 hemiflavotomy with
foraminotomy of left S1 root was performed. No
epidural fat above the compressed neural
elements. The extruded disc was removed lateral
to the axilla. Meticulous cleaning of the disc
space from the left.
Routine closure with smooth
postoperative recovery with normalization of the
power of the left foot.
Comments
The estimated recurrence rate
in this case is below the average, because the
disc space height is shallow.
