LIPOMA OF THE LEFT FOREARM MID THIRD WITH ATTACHMENT WITH THE MEDIAN NERVE.

Anamnesis:
The patient
came to the clinic 06-December-2009 complaining
of mass in the left forearm for 7 years
gradually progressing in size and causing
numbness of the left hand in the median nerve
distribution.
The
left median nerve was functioning well and no
sensory deficit was noted. The patient has
manifestations of neurofibromatosis.
MRI of the left forearm
showed very huge mass adherent to the median
nerve and pushing the surrounding muscles
without their invasion.
Incision over the mass in the
volar surface of the forearm was done and the
mass, which proved to be lipoma without invading
the median or the radial artery was found and
removed in one piece.
Routine closure of the wound.
Comments
The mass was considered as
schwannoma before the operation, taking into
consideration, that the patient has
neurofibromatosis.
It is better to treat such a
lesion as schwannoma and to have it in the final
result a lipoma, instead of considering it
lipoma and ending with schwannoma, as in the
case which was performed
07-November-2009.
