The patient after falling down
from 4-5 meter height, got fracture-dislocation C4-5 with locked
facet and complete paraplegia below C4 level. The patient was
observed for other vital signs and was operated after several hours
of observation. Open reduction with anterior fixation after removing
the fragmented disc material at C4-5 level. The patient is covered
with solumedrol 1 gm daily. The patient progressed apnea
attack the third postoperative day, while he was setting in the
chair, for what he was intubated and put in artificial ventilation.
Today tracheostomy performed .
15-September-2005 the trail to
wean the patient from ventilator showed complete absence of
respiratory drive, despite that the level of conseousness was normal
and fully alert.
