NEUROFIBROMATOSIS WITH HUGE POSTERIOR NECK MASS.
Anamnesis:
The patient was operated by
me when she was 7 years age for huge cervical
intraspinal ependymoma and later for progressive
hydrocephalus she was shunted. The patient has
neurofibromatosis and she was treated for
longtime for epi-attacks.
The last time she came to the
clinic 27-August-2008 complaining of huge mass
in the posterior aspect of the neck, urging to
remove it.
On examination: the patient
is neurologically free.
In the supine position, the
mass and the smaller size masses were excised in
one block and the wound was closed in several
layers to have better cosmetic appearance.
Routine closure of the wound
and smooth postoperative recovery.
Comments
The patient had very huge
cervical intraspinal ependymoma, which was
resected 15 years ago without recurrence.
Removal of the mass was for
cosmetic reasons.
