Surgical treatment in paraplegia survey:

Cross-anastamosis in paraplegia below D9 started to give results. The last documented case operated 1 year ago in a patient from Israel came to the clinic 3 weeks ago. ECS and EMG performed showed that there is starting innervation of Th 11 and 12. The patient's lower limbs muscles became bulky and he could contract the lower abdominal muscles and some movements in the pelvic girdle. Tuberculosis of the spine

In the last 2 years the incidence of tuberculosis of the spinal column is becoming more frequent and having different clinico-morphologic picture. 09.  21-AUGUST-2007  SARA MUHAMED KHALEEL  AL-HALAYQAH  54 YEARS LCS L3-4 AND L4-5 WITH LEFT SCIATICA.

 

 
 

Anamnesis

The patient came to the clinic 14-August-2007 complaining of LBP for 10 years with left sciatica. She could walk only 100 meters with intermittent claudication.

On examination SLRS was 60 degrees left side with weak dorsi and planterflexion all toes left foot .

bullet

The patient has osteoporosis with mild degree of spondylolisthesis L3-4.

bullet

The patient sent for MRI and it was performed 19-August-2007 showing LCS L3-4 and L4-5 with lateral recess syndrome.

bullet

Decompressive laminectomy of L3 and 4 with partial of L2 and L5 was performed with foraminotomy of L4 and L5 roots both sides was performed.

There was no epidural fat in the entire field and the dura was very tiny, that the roots could be seen through the dura.

bullet

Routine closure and smooth postoperative recovery and normalization of the power of the left lower limb.

Comments:

bullet

The patient has mild degree of spondylolisthesis at L3-4 level. During surgery check for instability was negative and there was no isthmolysis, for what this part of the pathology was ignored.

bullet

The lateral recess syndrome share in the compressing process, which must be corrected during surgery.
