HUGE EXTRUDED DISC C5-6 WITH BULGE C6-7.
Anamnesis
The patient was operated by me
15-May-2003 for LCS and was doing
well. than he came 01-July complaining of neck
pain and severe weak both upper limbs with
numbness both hands for the last week.
On examination, the patient has neck pain when
rotating the head to all directions. There is
weak grip both hands 3/5 and unable to extend
them with weak both triceps muscles 3/5. There
is hypalgesia median and ulnar distribution both
upper limbs.
The patient was sent for investigation and MRI
cervical spine done showing huge extruded disc
C5-6 compressing the spinal cord more to the
right and bulge C6-7.
Thorough anterior approach,
the level of C5-6 was identified and meticulous
cleaning of the disc space was performed and
removal of the extruded disc was achieved until
the dura was seen lax at the bottom of the
removed disc cavity. Decompression of C6-7 was
performed. Routine closure of the wound.
Smooth postoperative recovery.
The patient showed improvement of the power of
his upper limbs. He was sent to the ward.
FOLLOW UP
The patient
came to the clinic 14-July-2003 with clean wound.
There is no motor or sensory deficit.
Comments
The recurrence rate of cervical disc is zero.
The sooner the patient come to surgery, the
better the outcome.
