Anamnesis
The patient a Saudi citizen came to the clinic
29-July-2002 complaining of neck pain for 3
years with cephalgia and right shoulder pain.
Movement of the neck to all directions was
painful with weak grip and extension right hand
and the right triceps muscle. The patient was
sent for investigation and was advised to
perform left carpal tunnel release, which was
performed 15-February-2002. The patient then
came 25-January-2005 telling that the neck pain
increased and severe radicular pain shooting to
the right upper limb.
On examination: The patient is in agonizing
pain. Weak grip and extension of the right hand
and the right triceps muscle. There is
hypalgesia right hand
The patient was sent for investigations and MRI
cervical spine showing small extrusion C5-6 and
huge extrusion C6-7 with right foraminal
occlusion.
Through anterior approach
decompression of C5-6 and meticulous intradiscal
cleaning of C6-7 with removal of the right foraminal
fragments. The dura was seen at the depth of the
removed disc at C6-7. Routine
closure of the wound.
Smooth postoperative recovery.
The power of the right upper limb improved and
regression of the numb right hand.
She was sent to the ward.
Follow Up
The patient came 02-February-2005 with clean
wound and neurologically free.
Comments
The cervical disc usually not recurring
because total removal of the disc, make it impossible to
recur.
