09-MAY-2003 HIND SALEM AL-NSUR 33 YEARS HUGE
RIGHT LESSER WING MENINGIOMA.
Anamnesis
The patient came to the clinic 01-June-2003
complaining of fainting attacks for 20 months
with exacerbation the last 4 months. MRI of the
brain done 28-May-2003 showing huge right lesser
wing meningioma with massive edema around the
mass.
On examination: The patient has elements of
frontal lobe syndrome with anosmia of the right
side, otherwise she was neurologically free.
Right pterional approach was
achieved with reflection of the bone flap to the
right ear. The tumor was rubbery wood in
consistency, that sharp dissection was needed to
remove it by pieces. Radical removal of the
tumor was achieved. Routine closure of the
wound.
Smooth postoperative recovery.
She was sent to the ward.
FOLLOW UP
She came 11-September 2004 with new MRI performed 19-July-2004 demonstrating radical disappearance of the mass with no convulsions and the olfaction of the right side recovered. She was advised to continue in
Tegretol for another 2 years and to repeat MRI at that time.
The patient was followed for 15 years and no
signs of recurrence were seen.
Comments
The patient has huge meningioma. The pterional
approach is the most suitable approach to this mass.

its sensor gives feed back about the localization.
