AND MID THIRD WITH BILATERAL EXTENSION MORE TO THE RIGHT.
Anamnesis
The patient
was
admitted to Shmaisani hospital 19-February-2002
semi conscious with tetraparesis more pronounced
in the left with motor aphasia. The course of
deterioration is protracted over months.
MRI of the brain done recently showing
giant meningioma of the falx cerebri anterior
and mid third more to the right.
Wide
osteoplastic craniotomy over the right frontal
area crossing the superior saggital sinus to the
left. The bone flap reflected to the right ear.
Circumferential opening of the dura with
preservation of the running veins. The tumor was
seen and followed and piece-meal resection was
proceeded. The mass was looking as typical
meningioma, but frozen section gave false result
of glioma. It was ignored and resection was
proceeded until the matrix and the contralateral
part were removed. Strict hemostasis.
Routine closure of the wound.
Smooth
postoperative recovery. The patient was kept in
ICU for one day and discharged 03-March-2002.
Follow Up
The patient was
sent to
Al-Bashir hospital for further treatment
due to financial reasons.
Comments
The patient
giant flax meningioma anterior and mid third of
the falx with bilateral extension more to the
right.
Radical
resection was achieved and the final histologic
result was meningioma. Mitotic activity is
scanty.
