REGION.
Anamnesis
The patient a Yemeni citizen came to the clinic
02-January-2004 complaining of severe headache
for 5 months with blurring vision and
progressing with time. MRI of the brain done in
Yemen showing giant meningioma left frontal
region with massive peritumoral edema.
On examination: The patient is alert but having
mild right sided hemiparesis. Motor and sensory
speech functions not affected, nor the olfactory
function.
Left wide osteoplastic
craniotomy over the left frontal area with
reflection of the bone flap to the left ear. The
dura was opened parallel to the wide matrix of
the meningioma and coagulation of the tumor and
piece-meal resection was achieved. After
debulking of the tumor, separation of the tumor
from the brain was proceeded with coagulation
and sharp dissection of the feeders. Radical
resection of the meningioma achieved. The fresh
frozen section was of meningioma. All the
running by side veins and arteries were
preserved. Lyodura was used to replace the
tumorous dura and water-tight stitching of the
lyodura was done after strict hemostasis. Routine closure
of the wound. Smooth postoperative recovery. The
power of the right side of the body became normal. She was
sent to the ward.
FOLLOW UP
The patient came to the clinic 15-January-2004
with clean wound and neurologically free. The
patient did not appear for follow up.
Comments
The estimated postoperative recurrence in this
case will be zero with good prognosis, since
total resection of the tumor was achieved.
