15-MAY-2004 MUHAMED SAEED AL-ASSAL 64 YEARS PAINFUL
SCHWANNOMA LEFT RADIAL NERVE MID-LOWER THIRD OF THE ARM.
Anamnesis
The patient came to the
clinic 13-May-2004 complaining of severe pain in
the left radial nerve territory and a mass in
the mid-lower third of the arm for 3 months. He
underwent left CT-release? 2 weeks ago and
exploration of the mass 1 week ago and the
patient still with the same complains.
On examination, the patient
in agonizing pain, dysesthesia left radial
territory with no loss of motor function. There
is recent wounds for the left CT-release and
over the mass.
Using the old incision over
the projection of the left radial nerve,
the proximal and distal part of the radial nerve
were identified. The schwannoma arising from
inside the nerve. Using stimulator, it was
possible to extend the opening of the nerve
epineurium and the fascicles were identified.
The tumor was totally resected with preservation
of all functioning fascicles. Check for motor
function of the nerve after completion of the
resection confirmed that no neurological deficit
was noted. Routine closure of the wound. Smoot
postoperative recovery. No more dysesthesia was
noted after surgery.
FOLLOW UP
The patient
postoperative notes are missing.
Comments
Orthopedic surgeons must not deal with these
cases, because they lack the proper knowledge,
to how to deal with these circumstances.
