YEARS REMOVAL OF THE CONSTRUCT APPLIED FOR FRACTURE-DISLOCATION C6-7, TH 3-4 WITH DENSE PLEGIA BELOW D3.
Anamnesis
The patient was operated by me
23-May-2001 for
fracture-dislocation C6-7 and Th 3-4 with dense
plegia 10 cm above the nipple. Fixation using
Luque rectangles with sublaminar wires. Then she
came 25-September-2002 telling that the device
is clicking at it lower part.
On examination: The patient still paraplegic
with Foley's catheter with the level of
anesthesia still at the level, but the power of
the lower limbs1/5. It was decided to remove the
construct so as to have and MRI to the involved
area.
The old scar refreshed at the cervico-dorsal
area.
All the 12 sublaminar wires were removed and the
Luque rectangle sub sequentially. Routine closure of the wound.
Smooth postoperative recovery.
She was sent to the ward.
Follow Up
The patient was advised to continue
physiotherapy and she came to the clinic
21-January-2003 with MRI done 12-January-2003
showing fusion of D3 and 4. There is massive
gliosis with atrophy of the spinal cord from Th2
down to Th6. The hypalgesia regressed to the
segments of Th3-6. The power of the lower limbs
1/5.
The last time seen 04-June-2004 with the same
neurological status. She is waiting until the
future can resolve her problem and gave her

Comments
The fixating device is no longer
necessary and to performed MRI and see the spinal cord, it
will be better to remove the device.
Skyra MRI with all clinical applications in the run since 28-Novemeber-2013.
Inomed Riechert-Mundinger System, with three point
fixation is the most accurate system in the market. The microdrive and
its sensor gives feed back about the localization.
