YEARS UNACCEPTABLE LOOSE FIXATION OF FRACTURE C6.
Anamnesis
The patient a Kuwaiti citizen came to the clinic
10-August-2003 complaining of loose construct
used to him to fix the broken C6 vertebra after
RTA 2 years ago with subsequent paraplegia below
C5. The fixating device is stainless steel,
making it impossible to perform MRI to evaluate
the condition of the structures and the spinal
cord.
On examination, the patient in wheelchair with
preservation of the deltoids and the biceps both
upper limbs. Below that complete paraplegia and
anesthesia with loss of urination and defecation
control.
The patient was sent for investigation and X-ray
cervical spine done 12-August-2003 showing
showing loose fixating device between C4 and C7
with upper screws out of their insertion.
Through the atypical scar,
the old incision refreshed and the loose
construct was removed. Routine closure of the wound.
Smooth postoperative recovery.
The patient was sent to the ward.
FOLLOW UP
The patient
did not show up for follow up.
Comments
This unlucky guy needs further investigation,
but he disappeared.
