09-JANUARY-2014 WAFA MAHMOUD SHAHEEN 50 YEARS HUGE
EXTRUDED DISC C6-7 WITH LEFT FORAMINAL OCCLUSION.
Anamnesis
The patient came to the clinic 04-January-2014
complaining of left upper limb pain for 1 week.
On examination: the patient had pain when
turning the head to the left. There is weak grip
left hand 4/5, hand extension 3/5 and left
triceps muscle 2/5. The triceps reflex was
absent in the left.
MRI cervical spine done 05-January-2014 showing
extruded disc C6-7 with left foraminal occlusion
and old bulge C5-6.
Using C-arm, the C6-7 level
was identified. Discectomy of C6-7 with removal
of the extruded disc material from the left
side. The dura was seen all over and small
fragments were removed from left far lateral
location. Samarys RF cage 6x17x13 mm was
inserted to the disc space. Trestle cervical
plate one level 14 mm length with 4 cervical
screws 4x14 mm, fusion of C6-7 achieved.
Routine closure of the wound.
Smooth postoperative
recovery. The power of left upper limb
became dramatically better.
Comments
The patient has disc material with severe
foraminal compression. Surgery is the best
option with fusion in this such case.
